Women's racing news

Hopefully you've checked out this news article on Velonews highlighting the final standings in the 2006 Women's Prestige Cycling Series. Tina Pic and Kristin Armstrong battled back and forth all season, but it was Tina Pic taking the overall individual title. Meanwhile, Kristin Armstrong's Lipton team took the overall team title. Lipton's depth helped win the title as three of the top seven individual women were from team Lipton.

On a local note, NashvilleCyclist.com diarist Katharine Carroll won the best young rider award! Katharine used the late season Bermuda Gran Prix to propel her into first from second place. After having a successful first full season on the women's circuit Katharine is transferring from Victory Brewing to Aaron's Corporate Furnishings for 2007.

She will be surrounded by experienced riders like Shannon Hutchison and Rebecca Larson. Hutchison has previously won Athens Twilight while I remember watching Larson win the 2006 women's collegiate criterium national championship. Larson also competed in a few of the men's A collegiate races, and let's just say she has embarrassed many a Cat 1/2 in those events!
