Friday the 13th - superstitions

Are you a superstitious person? If so, you better look at the calendar today. Friday the 13th in October, which is appropriate considering Halloween is just a few weeks away.

I have tried to pay attention to cyclists to see what their unique routines are like, but I haven't come up with any "must do" activities other than just riding their bikes. There are definitely some habits I always follow through on to help create a consistent routine, but I am nowhere near as superstitious now as I was while playing baseball.

Baseball players are notorious for their superstitions. It's a serious topic and following rituals is something that a player pays serious attention to. Anytime you're off and lacking mojo it's time to look at your routine, what did you forget to do? Another big no no is that you never mess with another person's routine or jokingly interrupt, man, I've seen some fights nearly break out because of it!

On days like Friday the 13th it's time to pay extra attention to these ritualistic activities. Did you get up on the right side of the bed? Which shoe did you tie first? How many stop lights caught you on the way to work today? Did your teammate follow through and do their routine that plays a critical role in your routine's success? Where we you sitting when the rally happened or got squelched? Bus seating, oh, you pick your seat on day one and it's your ALL season! What did you eat for lunch? Wade Boggs ate chicken before EVERY game. Did you take the same path to the dugout and touch first base on your way in after the third out? I used to do a particular routine between every single pitch while hitting. Have you ever watched Nomar Garciapara hit? Talk about a superstitious freak!

I could go on and on. Life would be completely out of whack if those weren't followed. Oh, didn't get a hit tonight? Ahhh, I didn't turn left at the same street near the park. Yes, that's got to be it!

So, what are your cycling superstitions?
