Walk/Bike news
Local pedestrian and bicycling advocacy group Walk/Bike Nashville has released some news worth checking out. Sunday, October 1st marks the beginning of the 8th annual Walk Nashville Week. I like their statement, "The one week, low-car diet for everyone." Walk to the Titans game, walk to work, walk anywhere, walk to school, walk for active aging, walk to lunch, walk to the farmer's market and lastly walk to worship.
I have one to add, walk to the TV and not use the remote day!
Walk/Bike Nashville is asking for feedback from local bicyclists regarding bike racks that are being implemented throughout town. Go HERE to visit the news link and bike rack survey. Glen Wanner of Walk/Bike is working with Metro officials to ensure the proper racks are used. The artistic music note bike racks at the new symphony hall are pretty cool, but will people actually know they're bike racks?
I like the Pi racks myself, but only if there is more room to store more bikes. Plus, it would need some plastic or rubber top coating so bike frames aren't chipped.
What would be REALLY cool is if Nashville had bicycles available for rent throughout the city like Denmark. Do you remember Jason Chatham's pictures from the Pic of the Week contest for 29 May 2006? In Denmark you can pay $5 and un-lock a community bike to ride, and then return the bike later in the day to get your $5 back!
Take your time to look through the information and email Glen your thoughts about the racks. He'll appreciate your input in helping Nashville become more bicycle friendly!
