Racer hurt at State TT
This past Sunday was the Tennessee State Time-Trial Championship in Sparta. Over 120 riders participated in the 38 kilometer event to determine who is the fastest against the clock.
Shawn Hirt, one of Tennessee's best at this discipline, suffered serious injuries due to an accident involving a vehicle. Shawn is from Lenoir City and races for Gran Fondo/Bianchi. Shawn suffered multiple injuries, several broken bones, and had to be air lifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. I don't have specific details regarding how this accident happened.
Shawn has been in ICU for the last couple of days, and was scheduled to have arm surgery on Monday to repair a break. Doctors are monitoring his progress closely and hope to move him into a regular room soon. He is surrounded by his family and they have expressed deep appreciation for everyone's concern.
I'll keep you posted on his progress as more details are provided. In the meantime pour your thoughts and prayers towards Shawn and his family.
