It's a Giro weekend
The first grand tour starts this Saturday with the Giro taking off from Seraing, Belgium with a 6.2km ITT. The first four stages of the Giro are in Belgium before a rest/travel day back down into Piacenza, Italy for the TTT. I think crossing the borders during grand tours is a great idea, especially when it involves bike crazed Belgium.
Our only options to watch are on Sunday's with OLN or pay $19.99 to watch LIVE online through OLN and Cycling.tv. It's a bummer we aren't getting daily LIVE coverage by OLN, but we knew this was coming once Lance decided to hang up his wheels.
Tom Danielson will be there with Discover Channel, well actually he's been there doing recon rides with team directory Sean Yates. If you go to Yates' site you can read about the snow they woke up to on Sunday as they were doing some of the upcoming climbs. Yates has quite a few pictures of Tom training and admiring the gravel road that isn't even complete yet!
Yates says that they are going to use a 33-28 to get up that particular climb. He even compares what Tom's numbers were up stage 16's recon climb against what he was able to do earlier that morning. Apparently Yates is still doing some racing for fun and has a picture of a sweet aero tandem he and his brother recently raced.
I enjoy checking out all of the personal websites and blogs that cyclists are doing. It's too bad more aren't doing this because it really is an easy thing to manage and update. Tommy D has been updating his site more often now that he's been racing. He is one of the better ones at keeping his fans updated.
A lot of the younger up-and-coming racers are doing blogs too. Later I will do a separate blog of the different ones I check out regularly. These kids only have time to train and race their bikes, and then surf the internet while resting. Fortunately they're putting their time to good use and opening the window for us to look into their world.
