East corridor rail plans delayed?
I am hopeful the situation improves soon, but there's a good chance the Music City Star rail may be delayed because of federal government funding issues. A lot of progress has been made to have the rail functional by early 2006, but there's $6.2 million on hold because money has yet to be released by the fed.

One of the unfortunate negative by-products of the hurricanes is that many pet spending projects around the country will either get axed or delayed. A redirection of funds is taking place and priorities shifting. I'm not entirely sure that is best for our country as a whole for the long-term, but how can you argue it?
Why am I even discussing this you ask? Well, I will be using this rail to travel back and forth from home to work in Lebanon. I live within a 5 minute bike ride to a station in Donelson with Cumberland University being another 5 minute bike ride from the station in Lebanon. I bet there are other cyclists out there with that same opportunity.
Imagine how cool it would be to get on a train with your bike and go to work. I'd do it every single day without hesitation. Schedules and fees have yet to be determined or posted online. Whatever the costs it has to be cheaper than paying $50 a week for gas right?
Go HERE to the official Music City Star website.
The link above has a lot of good information. You'll find where the stations are located and what the plans are for the future. Look on the news section to see where the rail will expand. Of course we're talking 10 to 20 years out, but it'll end up going to Columbia, Murfreesboro, Dickson, Ashland City, Springfield & Gallatin.
This rail could be one of the most exciting things to hit our region in our generation, but most importantly decrease our dependency upon cars! Less drive time and more ride time.
