CU on Greenville podium

Sunday proved to be another successful day for Cumberland University at the Greenville Cycling Classic. Once again Stephanie Hannos took home 2nd place in the women 1/2/3, while Bjoern Ossenbrink snatched 3rd place in the Pro 1/2 event.
Very good results for Stephanie considering she's only picked up training within the last few weeks! With more miles and efforts in her legs I'm certain her sprint would have beaten out the DeFeet rider both days. Plus she raced aggressively, initiated breaks, and didn't sit in waiting for the sprint.

Bjoern was part of a 9 man break on Sunday that saw 6 Hincapie Sports teammates in the 9 man break. Pretty good odds for them right? Wrong! Hincapie didn't even place in the top 3. Amazing, they didn't even factor in the sprint.

Their strategy seemed to be to ride hard, keep the pace high, and set someone up for the sprint. That doesn't make sense to me when you have that many teammates in a break. Maybe they didn't have the legs after their victory on Saturday or maybe too confident, but one would assume some type of attempt to split the break would happen. Especially when you have 3 other guys in the break who are outstanding riders themselves.

Oh well, we'll happily take our 3rd place finish! Check NC.com for more pictures from the weekend.
