Greenville Classic

We’re in Greenville, SC this weekend at the Greenville Classic. The hometown hero showed up to race, George Hincapie, but he didn’t factor much in the Pro1/2 race. In the end it was his namesake team taking the victory in the end.

The course was different this year than in the recent past, and I think it was a change for the better. It was 5 turns totaling 1k with only the short uphill turn 4 being sketchy and tight.

Once again Cumberland found the finish line with good results. Stephanie Hannos took home 2nd place in the women 1/2/3 while Bjoern Ossenbrink came through in 10th position in the Pro1/2/3.

Stephanie countered a bit late by a move from DeFeet on the last lap, but sprinted from the field just behind the winner. Bjoern raced in the top 15 the entire time in a field that was quite deep, around 80 starters. In the end it was Hincapie Sports that revved up the speed and stringing things out for the win.

Spectators crowded turn one and around the start finish area. I’d estimate a few thousand watched the race while there were probably 20,00+ up Main Street enjoying the Fall for Greenville Festival. Remember Summer Lights in Nashville? This festival is kind of like that minus about 175,000 people, but still crowded for a smaller town.
