Sunday, October 9

3 Years & Counting

Several times throughout Sunday I thought back to this same date three years ago. October 9, 2002 became a day of significant change in my life. I experienced what no cyclist ever wants to endure, and that is suffering serious injury from being hit by a vehicle. I'll save the details, but if you know me you're well aware of the story.

I rarely focus on the pain involved that affected me and my family in countless ways. Every day I am reminded through lovely scars that remain, but I choose to focus on how this event changed the course of my life for the good. Occasionally you must suffer a potential knock out punch just so you're forced to get off the mat and respond.

I am 100% certain that without experiencing the event of 10/9/02 I would.....

1 - not have sought employment from my employer of the last 2 years which provided the experience I had long been searching
2 - not have developed the idea to create NashvilleCyclist.com
3 - not have become as involved with the local cycling community
4 - have missed out on many wonderful friendships that either developed or grew stronger from that dreadful experience
5 - not have received the opportunity to become the cycling coach at Cumberland University
6 - not be pursuing my passion in life as an occupation, cycling.

I had no idea what His plan was for me as this initially happened, but I made the decision early on to let Him lead the way. Often I think, "Can you believe this?", but then I respond resoundly to myself, "Yeah, absolutely!"

I am blessed.
