Heras' bike to Katrina
Spaniard Roberto Heras is auctioning off his golden bicycle from the final stage of the Vuelta and donating the money to help Katrina victims. Surely you already know he just won his fourth Vuelta a few weeks ago. Although Roberto has had difficulty in the Tour de France the last few years he is always prepared to fight for victory in his home country.

Ebay's Spanish website has the bike listed with the current bid up to 18,100 Euros. At today's current exchange rate that's $21,947 in American dollars. 1 EUR = 1.21256 USD 1 USD = 0.824699 EUR. A dollar doesn't buy much in EU countries these days huh.
At first glance I think the fact that a European professional cyclist even considering doing this is a wonderfully unique act of compassion. Sure, it's just a bicycle, one of many Roberto probably has, but he still has taken the time and made the decision to do something.
Hopefully you have already given in some fashion as well. If not, go to the American Red Cross and do so today.
