Daily dose - 4/12
Have you ever gone through periods where you think, "nobody really wants to hear what I have to say." That has been the impetus behind my lack of commentary lately. Other times there simply isn't anything to say, but recently my gut has said to keep quiet. However, the mood is changing.....
This weekend marks one of the more challenging road races on the TBRA schedule. The Raccoon Mountain Road Race held in the Chattanooga area is promoted by Scenic City Velo. Each year this club promotes several events, and they always do a great job. If you're not a good climber I highly recommend a 25 cog on the back because you're about to do a lot of climbing. None of them are steep, but they're long and will take their toll on you. Don't forget to pre-register online because there is no day-of registration for the race.
Unfortunately I won't be able to be there to race, but I will get another shot at Beech Mountain in Banner Elk, NC. We have a collegiate weekend of racing at Lees-McRae which will also test the climbing legs of everyone attending. We always look forward to this trip because it's like a mini-vacation. We stay at Dereka's Sugar Mountain Resort and live the high life for a few days. What a blast!
Jittery Joe's announced their Tour de Georgia roster yesterday, and it includes their general classification star Cesar Grajales. His participation has been in doubt after a serious crash at Redlands earlier in the season. Cesar messed up his shoulder pretty bad, almost requiring surgery, but he's healed up well enough to compete.
Other great news coming from the Tour is that AT&T has stepped in to be the title sponsor of the race. This boost of $500,000 is a huge shot in the arm for the race, so all of us should be thankful for AT&T's contribution to improve the quality of the event. Previously Tour organizers were talking of scaling down the race, but this financial boost should put them back on solid footing.
Team rosters for the Tour de Georgia have finally been announced as well. I'll look at this and add comments later. Many of the usual suspects are in attendance, but one that should catch everyone's eye is Tyler Hamilton.
Yesterday's Ghent-Wevelgem was marred with a lot of crashes that saw a newcomer take the victory. One crash took out American Tyler Farrar and put him on the shelf for awhile due to a broken knee-cap. Ouch! The Cofidis rider will be out at least a month, which seems a short period of time for a cyclist needing to pedal a bike. Farrar was scheduled to race Paris-Roubaix this weekend too.
Oh, I just remembered, I will leave you with this.....I have been getting questions lately about the 2007 NashvilleCyclist.com Wednesday Night Criterium Series. Yes, we are definitely having the races this summer! Yes, I already have the dates! Yes, we will have sponsorship! Yes, we will do our best to make it more exciting and appealing to more riders!
Yes, I am super excited and looking forward to the series! How about you?

Your commentary does not go unnoticed! I check the site everyday during lunch. It’s just I rarely have anything worthwhile to say! I will do my best to get some decent pictures this weekend at Raccoon Mtn. Apparently I have a rep to protect now! Good luck in NC.
