Leading off.....

'I never cheated,' says Ullrich as he announces retirement and Amid investigations, ex-Tour champ Ullrich retires
In my opinion Jan Ullrich deserves a better ending than this, but at least he's choosing it himself. I am still having difficulty seeing Ivan Basso get to race without consequence while Ullrich has been forced to sit on the sidelines. Don't misunderstand, I am happy Basso is racing, but Operation Puerto has been nothing but a modern day witch hunt. Everybody deserves to live under the auspices of truth, but somehow a fork in the road twisted this out of proportion.

Interview with Jens Voigt
This guy should be utilized more as a role model for professional cycling. Cycling fans around the world not only appreciate his style of racing, but his energy and enthusiasm is a magnet we all want to bond with. I blogged the other day about his strength in the breakaway with Leipheimer and Horner, but how about the next day when he rode off the front as he was doing the leadout? The peloton could not keep up with his leadout! Voigt looked back and had to slow down for the peloton to suck his wheel. You can just imagine his thinking, "come on guys, let's go!" I for one am not looking forward to cobwebs forming on his bike in the garage.

Tour de Georgia may be on financial crash course
As the Tour of California wraps up a highly successful international event all eyes are now on Georgia. After losing Ford as a title sponsor the TDG is suffering financially and will have to scale down the race if $800,000 isn't raised by March 2nd. That's a ton of cash to raise in a short period of time. My guess is the state of Georgia should step up and invest more in this event, especially considering the $26 million economic impact the race has on the local economy. This event is on the brink of falling to pieces if a title sponsor isn't eventually secured for 2008 and beyond. If that happens the local communities affected will definitely feel the pinch.

Pro cycling is a physically demanding team sport
Actually, young athletes aspiring in any sport must make similar sacrifices. As Christopher Allison says, "....you have to step out on faith." Amen brother.

I know Valentine's Day was a few weeks ago, but hopefully you did not choose THIS for your date. If so you're probably searching for a new date.

Will George Hincapie be ready for Paris-Roubaix on April 15? George broke his wrist in a crash in Saturday's ToC stage, but managed to finish the stage and help pull back the breakaway. He didn't start on Sunday's last day, but did have surgery according to the announcers on Versus last night. It was said he's expected to be out six weeks. The timing could not have come at a worse time for Hincapie considering Paris-Roubaix is always his #1 spring target.
