New holiday sounds

How many of you are fans of the Nutcracker Suite? I am for one and will likely visit TPAC this month to see it, but here's an angle that I'm sure you hadn't heard before.

A San Francisco based composer has composed the Nutcracker Suite "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" using only bicycle parts!

Outside of faith based songs and Jingle Bells is there a more recognizable sound than the Sugar Plum Fairy? Even those of us who are less creative can feel our imaginations fire on all cylinders when we hear it. In my mind it conjures up the feeling of "what will I find under the Christmas tree?" If I were a bike shop owner I'd get my hands on a copy and play it on a continuous loop in the store.

Go to the link to read a little history about the project and to listen to what Flip Baber, aka johnnyrandom, has created. It's a pretty amazing feat and hard to distinguish what bicycle part was used for each sound, but Flip does explain which parts were used for certain instruments. Soon there should be a video included with his Nutcracker Suite rendition.

This guy is evidently a well respected composer when you consider his client list and view a few of his sample commercials. Bravo on his latest endeavor!
