Random notes.....

Yesterday I posted pictures and details about the Jittery Joe's Velo Swap on NashvilleCyclist.com. The Beanteam is selling quite a few complete road and time-trial bikes as well as wheelsets and other accessories. Check it out and contact Team Director Jesse Lawler if you're interested, but do it quick because the team is making a trip to Charlotte for the Big Stampede.

".....hardest physical thing I've ever done....." - Lance barely under three hours at NYC marathon. He even got to wear bib number 1002 signifying his cancer diagnosis date.

Walk in the Park with Mayor Purcell - "We want to celebrate our parks and encourage people to get out and enjoy the scenery....." The walks with Purcell take place on the first Saturday of each month. Maybe we can get the mayor to ride a bike next spring when it warms up.

Check out this future schedule to walk with the mayor:
Dec. 2—Downtown Greenway beginning at Farmers Market and continuing to Riverfront Park.
Jan. 6—Bells Bend Park at Old Hickory Boulevard will open to the public this winter
Feb. 3—Shelby Bottoms Greenway
March 3—Historic Fort Negley
April 7—Richland Creek Greenway
May 5—Centennial Park
June 2—Stones River Greenway

The other day I was pleasantly surprised to see an improved USA Cycling website. It's encouraging to see there's more useful information. If you're a USAC license holder then I encourage you to sign up for an online account. It's a great way to manage your license, see race results, view rankings, and stay on top of the sport nationally.

One section on the site that's new is the "Cycling in the News" area, which is where I found the "Finding new joys" article out of San Diego. You never know if your next ride will be you last, so take joy in every single opportunity.

AskMen.com ranked the top 49 men of 2006. Predictably our man Lance Armstrong broke into the top 10, but he missed the podium by just one spot to land at 4th. He got beat out by some heavy hitters like billionaire Richard Branson and actor George Clooney, but hip hop leader Jay-Z?!

Have you ever dreamed about a bicycle? I have vivid dreams about a lot of things that don't make much sense until I visit Dream Moods. I piece together different items in my dream, go through the dictionary of Dream Moods, and then attempt to put it into context within my conscious life. The good thing is, if you dream about a bicycle it'll give you a hint on where you are in life.

California isn't the only area with a wine region. Check out Tennessee's wine country HERE.

I have been conspicuously quiet about doping, Landis, Basso, Ullrich, Operation Puerto, Saiz, etc. If I believed I could offer anything of substance I would, but I am mentally done with trying to put it into perspective. The way I see it, the current doping climate in professional sports is very much like the political climate here in America. We're near a 50/50 equilibrium in those who are done with pro athletes and those who just want to see competition. This is parallel to the split in those who vote Democrat and Republican.

Speaking of which, go VOTE this Tuesday, November 7th! I would highly recommend getting familiar with your district's ballot before entering the voting booth. There are some referendums that could confuse you if you aren't paying attention.

Austin King of Jittery Joe's has found a new training technique that's sure to not only improve VO2max, but also your Microsoft Excel skills.
