From Napa to Israel
I knew once I got home from California and the wine bottling at Century Oak Winery was complete that Adam Housley would be on a plane off to cover the Middle East conflict.
To refresh.....Adam is who I bottled wine with in Napa Valley and he happens to be a news correspondent with FOX News. If you've watched much FOX News you have probably seen him reporting from all over the globe the last few years.
Prior to the wine bottling FOX had asked him if he would travel to Israel to cover the conflict in the region. Adam had to decline initially because of his family obligation at the winery, but he told me it was difficult to say no because he thrives on reporting from regions where political policies are dominating.
Until tonight I didn't know he had taken a recent assignment, but then I get his typical email update explaining what he's doing. Whenever he's reporting he'll send out friendly updates to his family and friends to give an inside look behind the broader story.
Now, in case you weren't aware there are two FOX News employees who are being held captive by a Palestinian group. Reporter Steve Centanni and photographer Olaf Wiig are the men being held, and both are people Adam knows well, especially Olaf. These two men have been held captive for 14 days, but Adam reports their release is close at hand.
Shortly after their abduction I remember thinking that could have been Adam. If not for the wine bottling, what if?
Well, of course Adam takes the first available assignment straight into Israel! He's there to help out his FOX colleagues in Israel and offer a break to those who've been there the last six weeks. Some of things he discusses in his message are about his colleagues Steve and Olaf, the wall built by Israel to keep out suicide bombers (new since Adam's last trip in 2002), and his Jewish taxi driver who hates Arabs.
Adam's last comment sums it all up, "I remember now the frustration I felt when I last left here."
If you'd like to keep up with Adam and read his blogs visit http://adamhousley.net/index.html and go to the blog section.
I realize this has absolutely nothing to do with cycling, but neither does wine. Please keep Adam in your thoughts and prayers until his safe return home.
