L.A. & Amsterdam blogged

Believe it or not there are quite a few people out there writing and/or blogging in some capacity about bicycling. I'm not talking about the mainstream cycling news sites we all read daily, but those tiny corners of the internet (like NashvilleCyclist.com!) where fascinating bicycling stories are expressed.

Personally, I pay attention to bloggers in all spectrums of interest. Recently I was cruising through Instapundit when I see Glenn has linked to a Slate article about bicycling.

The first article was by Andy Bowers of Slate titled "Nobody Bikes in L.A.: But they'd be a lot happier if they did." Read it.

Andy writes about riding along quiet Los Angeles side streets, passing up the log jam of cars, and watching his blood pressure drop. For him he started looking for reasons to make another trip just to seek out a new route. What he ultimately found was a whole new view of the city he never knew existed.

If you think about our riding opportunities on side streets here in Nashville it's the same thing as L.A. based upon his description. Sure, we can speed down car clogged West End to reach Percy Warner, but it's more fun to go through the neighborhoods and dream of owning one of those homes (dream big!).

Another Slate writer contemplates a move to where the culture already exists. Seth Stevenson writes "Should I Move To Amsterdam" as he's weighing the idea and fantasy of moving there. Seth is a daydreamer like you and me.

Seth was enamored with the cycling culture since in his words Amsterdammers worship bicycles. Our kind of place, no? When Nashville pulls off "bike dates" as he describes we've progressed. Like I said, dream big.
