VO2 max testing
Check out this article in the Tennessean on Tuesday about the YMCA offering V02 max testing. It started at the Maryland Farms Y with plans to be offered at other locations. The article gives contact info if you're interested in having this done. I don't know what something like this normally costs, but it's $135 for members and $170 for non-members.
Knowing this bit of information would be helpful to anyone serious about training. It would help you to better understand your limits and setting a structure for your efforts during training. The HR monitor becomes a more valuable tool with this information.
The pricing discrepancy might be a typical practice by the Y, but if were leading this program I'd not charge extra for non-members. Instead I'd use the price as a carrot to get more people to join.
What a great opportunity to give another tour to a potential member. Then if they actually joined I'd discount the testing fee 50%! Now that I think about it, not having called them maybe they're doing this already? If not they're missing a unique selling opportunity.
