Too blessed to be stressed
Typically when I'm typing up a blog I'll have the television going in the background, and most times I am not paying any attention. Tonight, my attention was captivated by something unexpected - Clash of the Choirs. This show was LIVE and full of amazing energy. Singers such as Patti LaBelle, Micheal Bolton and Blake Shelton were tasked with putting together a choir from scratch from their respective hometowns. You would have to have seen the show to get the full effect, but this was a superb demonstration of teamwork.
Have you ever been expected to accomplish something starting from nothing? It can be a scary proposition. Yet, it is incredibly fulfilling to hit your goal. I get filled with joy not only when I do this, but also when I witness it happening for others. It just makes me smile.
My blog post title comes from a quote that a serviceman gave during the broadcast of Clash of the Choirs. Very appropriate for this time of year I think.
Harpeth Bicycles Christmas Party
From 6-8 PM on Thursday, December 20 is the Harpeth Bicycles 3rd Annual Christmas Party. Their shop is located at 1110 Hillsboro Rd. in Franklin. Everyone is welcome to attend and encouraged to bring a friend. The shop is providing snacks and beverages, so show up with your Santa hat on and be ready for some fun.
2008 TBRA Race Schedule
Next year's Tennessee racing schedule is up and ready for viewing. There will likely be some slight adjustments, but take note of several changes from the past. The Memphis Omnium is in April instead of later in the summer, there's no Raccoon Mountain road race, no Soto Stage Race but replaced with later criteriums, and no Lascassas weekend.
As of right now I'm not certain if there will be a NashvilleCyclist.com Coliseum Criterium in mid-May. I have to wait until USAC finalizes the collegiate road nationals date before committing, and then of course I have to round up the funds. I will do my best to make it happen, and of course you all will be some of the first to know.
As for the overall 2008 racing schedule throughout the Southeast I will update this on the main NC.com site soon. I have yet to do all the research to see if every promoter is making plans for next year yet. I like to wait a little bit longer before publishing so I am not having to do a lot of editing.

2008 Elite, U23 and Junior Road Nationals head to Orange County
Load up the station wagon and head West next summer instead of going North to Pennsylvania. USAC has yet to announce the dates and location of Masters nationals though.
Bush's Not-So-Easy Riders
I have reported on President Bush being an avid mountain biker, but now he has finally wised up and started training with a power meter! I wonder about his normalized power during these 90 minute weekend rides? I just can't imagine Bush riding all out for 20 minutes to determine power at threshold.
Low budgets make riders easy targets
You know, Vinokourov has a point; how is it that just a few cyclists were named out of Operation Puerto? The way he describes it the sport of cycling has submitted to WADA in ways that other professional sports have not. It's as if the financially weak sports (cycling, track & field, swimming, et al) have fallen prey while those flushed with cash (soccer, baseball, football, et al)are too strong and able to withstand WADA's influence. There's a lot of truth in that I believe.
20 easy gifts -- that aren't gift cards
It's Christmas shopping time, but what do you get someone when you can't think of anything and you've said no to gift cards? I can't even make up my mind what I'd like to have much less what to give someone else! I always try to give something useful, practical and unexpected. My strategy just so happens to follow this author's three suggested categories, so check it out.

re; low budget sports and wada, check the olympic connection, the poor sports have strong olympic connections which is where all of wada's power comes from, the professional levels of soccer, baseball and football are seperate to each's olympic movement, which is different to cycling, track&field and swimming
