Happy Thanksgiving and more

Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving! Most importantly the day should be spent recognizing the wonderful blessings in our lives and spending that time with family. Here's to a wonderful day of family, football, turkey and lots of dressing!

Another way to celebrate Thanksgiving of course is to get on your bike and ride. Today I did just that for just the second time since breaking the elbows over five weeks ago. About 10 of us showed up at the Airplane Fields to brave the cloudy low 40 temps and rolled through the old sprint loop for a two hour spin. I hit the road for the first time the other day for just 30 minutes and it felt rather euphoric. It was a warmer day with a little wind, but to feel myself rolling on the pavement was a great feeling. From these two rides I realized I hadn't missed the training really, but rather the camaraderie and sensations we feel while on our bike. What better way to open up our senses?

Ok, you know the drill. I save up websites in my IE favorites and then eventually share them. So moving on.....

Bamboo bikes? Brilliant!
I am in need of a new frame. Maybe I'll pick one up from Calfee. Jessica Hopp of the Tennessean thinks it's a good idea.

Calfee Design
It's a good looking bike!

Noosa International Criterium
Trent's season finally ended a few weeks ago. He'll be back with the Jittery Joe's boys in 2008, which means there's a good chance you'll see him training often here in Nashville.

The Worst Day of the Year Ride
Portland, OR has this option on their 2008 calendar. This got me to thinking about my worst day on the bike last season. Without question it was during a long training ride where I drank a pint of chocolate milk at the mid-way point. Stupid. Ten minutes after drinking it but 90 minutes from home my body revolted against me. What was your worst day?

24 - Season 7
This writer's strike has to end soon. The show 24 has postponed their new season debut in 2008. Delayed gratification I suppose.

Nashville region is 2nd in U.S. in miles traveled per person
They say we're one of the most "auto-centric metro areas" in the country. No surprise there huh, but 20.5 Billion combined miles driven in the area? That's billion with a capital B. The cumulative cost of so many vehicles driving a great distance is almost impossible to quantify. As the article says, "it cuts into productivity and morale." No kidding. Nashville must push through a more progressive and comprehensive alternative transportation program, and it must include the bicycle at a greater percentage than it does now.

Q&A with Katharine Carroll
A NashvilleCyclist.com diarist is getting some cool recognition. I picked this up off of Katharine's blog. It's an interview with NBC Olympic Sports. That's right, Olympics!

Stay tuned for more tomorrow.....
