Back-to-Back-to-Back

Here's a little something to hold you over until I get web access again. We're staying on top of Sugar Mountain for the next five days and we never know if the house will have wireless or not. Ah the price you pay to stay at a ski resort!

Greener Nashville
Yeah, that's right, NashvilleCyclist.com is green!

The greatest beatdowns in history
It took #11 before cycling is mentioned with Lance and his stage 15 victory in the 2003 Tour de France. The win was after he crashed when his handlebars hooked the musette bag of a fan. Yeah, it's a beatdown, but that's Lance being Lance and not as extraordinary as say, #27 Nolan Ryan beating up Robin Ventura, or say #94 Bears Superbowl win over Cowboys 44-0, or lastly #100 Georgia Tech beating Cumberland in football in 1916 by a score of 222-0. Now those are some serious beatdowns!

My guess is had Floyd Landis not failed a drug test after his stage 17 victory in the 2006 Tour de France he'd have made this list instead of Lance. If David Shoenfield of ESPN had done much research of professional cycling in Europe he'd have stumbled across a few from the Cannibal, Eddy Merckx.

U.S. Bicycling HOF adds members
It appears that six new people entered the Hall as keynote speaker Phil Liggett entertained the crowd of 300. Liggett believes the Tour de France is jealous of Americans and that Floyd isn't guilty of anything.

Waiting for the 2007 World's
Infamous coach Dr. Michele Ferrari suggests having the World Championship in late September or early October is bad for the sport. He'd like to see the Grand Tour winners motivated to win the WC, but having it so late in the season makes it difficult to stay motivated with energy to focus on such a big event. I'd say it isn't just the top tier stage race cyclists having trouble with motivation as I believe racing fans suffer from fatigue as well. I say jam pack it all within a two to three month period.

Wait, now my idea about a true franchised league is coming together. Ok, so have two distinct seasons; the early season classics that would include the Giro, and then a second half that would include the Tour de France, WC and Vuelta. That's a rough framework, but I'm telling you this setup could work.

Before you bike, find the perfect fit
Cumberland Transit and MOAB in the 'Boro are quoted within this Tennessean article with some helpful tips about getting fitted for a new bike. If you're a beginner not knowing where to start then this at least gives you some things to consider. Most importantly, whatever you do buy from your local bike shop for the best service and advice.

Let's Ride!
Scroll down to see the picture in October's ride calendar from the Metro Atlanta Cycling Club. I don't want to give the cops in Belle Meade any crazy ideas, but this would be a fun ticket to get!
