Wiping down the place
If there is one thing I don't particularly enjoy doing it is dusting around home. Everything else I stay on top of pretty good, yes me, but dusting is just so blah. However, when I reach that tipping point of "got to" then I go on a dusting and cleaning rampage. Afterwards, I feel so much better too. I live in an older place with no frills, very low maintenance, very little stuff, but after a good cleaning it feels like a fresh coat of paint. Speaking of which, I should probably do some painting. Thanks for that idea to think about forever. Oh, and don't get me going on the need of curtains or lack thereof. This finishes the home improvement section of the blog.
Speaking of house cleaning here are some random thoughts.....
No more Vino': 'I don't want this sport anymore'
With quite a few of the top names dropping out of cycling due to doping or retirements it's going to open the door for others to begin their stamp on the sport. We know enough about professional sports that just one rider will not be missed in the grand scheme of things. Baseball moved on when Babe Ruth retired, football didn't stop when Joe Montana retired, and hockey is thriving without Wayne Gretzky. Of course, cycling continued and has grown since Eddy Merckx retired and hasn't skipped a beat without Lance Armstrong.
We will move on to the next available hero; all the while hoping they inspire us because of their marvelous feats more often than sadness due to their own undoing.
Guillen, Gibbons get 15-day suspensions
Note that MLB and the players association were negotiating Guillen's suspension. GM Dayton Moore of the Kansas City Royals sounds a lot like Johan Bruyneel back when he was talking about signing Ivan Basso. You know, I love baseball because it was my life for a long time, but I sure would love to see WADA jump into their cesspool.
The Many Errors in Thinking About Mistakes
Are you a fixed mind-set or growth mind-set person? Do you pay attention and learn from those who fail more than you do those who succeed? Which do you learn from the most? Do you learn from others or your mistakes at all?
All of the above could be incorporated into your bike racing strategies.
24 doing 48
Will he escape or will he do his time? I can't wait for the new season of 24 to start. That is if the writer's strike ever ends. Do you think the writers have yet to notice that we are content to watch re-runs for quite awhile longer? I saw a Tonight show last night that looked to be one of Jay Leno's first shows when he took over. There's plenty of material out there that today's core advertising market has never seen. Sure, ad revenue will slide but cost of production has hit rock bottom!
The Unwanted Bounce of Exercise
Ladies, having problems with the "jiggle factor" lately? I'm not familiar with any female cyclists having this problem, but if you cross train by running I'm sure it slaps you in the face from time to time.
The Competitors Radio Show
This is a great website filled with a lot of good interviews of high level athletes and those in the competitive sports world. A few in the cycling arena you can listen to are Andy Hampsten, Bill Stapleton, Bob Roll, Bobby Julich, Davis Phinney, David Walsh, George Hincapie and Greg Lemond to name a few. There are even nine different ones of Lance Armstrong. I could go on and on but as you see I quickly got tired of linking to them. Frankie Andreu's wife Betsy has an interesting interview as well, but my audio player has locked up while listening. Check it out!
