Get on with it
Race director may rescind implicated riders' invitations
Certainly it's any race director's prerogative to invite or dis-invite any rider or team, but how does anyone draw the line to decide who gets shut out? This article focuses on riders implicated in Operation Puerto, but what about every other rider involved in any and all investigations? What about those who have lived out suspensions? If race director Chris Prudhomme is so convinced already then why not come out and state right now, "you will not be allowed to race in the Tour, period."
Why only warn of expulsion before it starts? Prudhomme states that facts are still coming out nearly every day. All this based on no conclusive evidence. Huh? Just do it already and let everyone plan. Make an executive decision if you're so prepared for the legal action that will follow. You're either going to do it or not, so get on with it Mr. Director.
We are getting closer and closer to a tipping point, but now it's going to involve more than just the riders themselves. Wonder what Johan Bruyneel of Discovery thinks about Prudhomme's comments? Although this could please Ivan Basso because he could focus entirely on the Giro and not attempt the grueling back-to-back grand Tours. Still, it's not what Discovery had in mind when they signed Basso.
Ullrich's DNA to be compared with blood seized in Spanish doping case
Ullrich simply cannot get a break. Ok, so what if his DNA matches the tested blood confiscated in the Puerto raid? Then suppose the blood is found to contain banned substances or inconsistencies that would point to drug use? Just what exactly does that tell you? Nothing if you ask me. It's a bag of blood that could have been manipulated by anyone. You either have to pee in the cup or offer a blood sample to the proper drug testing authorities, and only then should you be busted for drug use if tests are positive. Well, that or being caught with it on your person (like David Millar) will do the positive test trick. This witch hunt is a joke.
Only one month away - ToC
Once we hit February 18th we'll hopefully forget about all of the above.
Tour of California on Versus
You'll want to save this link because it gives you the times and dates of all the stages being shown on Versus, formerly known as OLN. This is a step in the right direction for all us racing junkies needing to overcome the winter drought. I know this will mean less bull riding, but that's the price we have to pay.
