Costly defense

Landis doesn't expect to race this season
ESPN.com scored this interview with Floyd, but we learn what most of us already knew or assume. What you didn't know was that Floyd says he's spending $100,000 per month to defend himself.

Most of us have never been in shoes similar to Floyd to have to defend your version of truth. It's a level of complexities that only a few can approach getting their minds around, and for those experts who can it's a costly proposition. Considering the rate this hearing process is going Floyd would gain financially if he didn't pursue it and quickly accept the 2-year suspension.

Here are your options on the front end:

1 - Fight the allegations tooth and nail with a lot of lawyers. Go through the appeals process. Spend tons of money and risk bankruptcy. Lose your case and still be out for 2 years (the Hamilton method).
2 - Do not admit anything, but simply accept the 2-year ban. Know the truth in your own heart. Keep all your money. Train and be patient. Get signed after the ban and move on (the modified Hamilton & David Millar method).
3 - Fight the allegations tooth and nail with a lot of lawyers. Go through the appeals process. Spend tons of money. WIN your case but it takes two years for the process to end. Get signed and move on (this method does not exist).
4 - Retire (the Oscar Camenzind method).

Granted, this says nothing of the impact to your character and integrity. I believe no matter what that those two aspects will be irreparably damaged regardless of the outcome. Each of us can only hope to never be in that position, but if you are it's a game of strategy and not truth. Only your perception is your reality, not everyone elses.
