Coffee shop baaaahhhlogging
It has been awhile since I put in a blog about a coffee shop. A few weeks ago I stopped in Mt. Juliet to check out Billy Goat Coffee, which is a new shop located in the new Providence development just off Mt. Juliet Road South. If you drive out I-40 East towards Knoxville then stop by there to see this retail development that's shaping the future of Mt. Juliet.
There has always been money in Mt. Juliet, but retailers and developers are finally catching on. A "did you know" - I'm not sure if this is still the case, but a few years ago Wilson County was the second wealthiest county in Tennessee behind Williamson.
I didn't even realize Billy Goat Coffee existed until I saw a coupon for it in a mailer. Like any coffee and mocha freak I made a bee-line to check it out. As I walked up I got the impression it was going to be a little too commercialized, but after going inside I warmed up to its coziness. It's not a Fido or Bongo Java by any means when it comes to independent coffee shop ambiance, but there's a definite warmth that you feel. Taylor Made has the edge in Mt. Juliet when it comes to the homey feel.
I ordered my usual; a grande soy extra hot mocha. I am always apprehensive when ordering at a new place, especially one that seems to be learning the industry entirely OTJ. Despite that assumption of lesser skill my drink was superb. I cannot recall what beans or mocha mix they use, but I enjoyed the flavor and was impressed they handled the 'extra hot' just right. Not only do they serve coffee but as you can see they have pastries and other food available. They also receive bonus points for offering free wireless Internet, and even a couple of televisions with national news playing.
They had to Windex the glass after I left.
Since visiting Billy Goat Coffee I have just about eliminated my purchases of soy mochas. Yes, you read that right, I have nipped my addiction. Well, at least nipped buying them full price. There's been an internal redistribution of wealth in the NashvilleCyclist budget. I also have a role inside a bakery and cafe that offers me chances to get a fix when needed, so I haven't kicked the habit 100% just yet. This should come as good news to the Cumberland boys during our long road trips since this will save at least one hour of coffee shop stoppages from happening.
This photo of Billy is hanging above the fireplace in his honor. Bowing isn't required, but accepted.
