Collegiate TTT

Yep, the 2006 Collegiate National Championship has kicked off.

The team time-trial took place this morning in Lawrence, Kansas. The closed course was a 14 mile out and back that was split 50/50 between a serious head wind and tailwind. Of course the headwind was mostly either a false flat or uphill before a very fast finishing stretch.

Each team could start four riders, but the official time is taken from the front wheel of the third rider. Many teams had lost the fourth rider long before the finish meaning that third rider had to stick with the other two.

Fort Lewis College smoked the course by winning Division I with a time of 33:04, and Lees-McRae College won in Division II with a time of 34:15. Cumberland was a little over two minutes off the pace of Lees-McRae to finish seventh overall in Division II.
