Fallen officers honored

The Daily News Journal in Murfreesboro recently shared a story about police officers from the Boro who are participating in the Police Unity Tour. This ride honors fellow officers who were killed in the line of duty, and helps to raise money for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall located in Washington, D.C.

Officer Jacoby O'Gwynn of Murfreesboro is traveling to Virginia to ride in honor of two fellow officers who died in traffic accidents while on patrol. Only police officers are able to participate in this event, but to do so they must raise a minimum of $1,500. Officer O'Gwynn blew that out of the water by raising a whopping $4,000!

I know Officer Jeff Phillips from the Metro Nashville Police Department has participated in this event, and he did so wearing a NashvilleCyclist.com kit! From Jeff's description the Police Unity Tour is a wonderful experience as police officers come together to honor their friends. Most of these officers are serious recreational riders and use cycling as their release from the pressure of their occupation.

As Officer O'Gwynn states, "I don't ever want anyone to forget the sacrifices they have made."
