Hammerfest returns!
The questions are coming left and right, "When will we start the Wednesday night Hammerfest ride?!"
Unfortunately we do not have an upcoming board meeting to make this important decision. However, considering the circumstance an executive decision must be made and handed down.
I hereby decree the date of Wednesday, May 3rd as the start of the official Hammerfest training! The ride rolls out at 6:00 PM from the entrance to Percy Warner Park at the end of Belle Meade Boulevard. There are strings attached to any executive order, so please read the details below since there are some important modifications.
This early into May sunset plays a big role in determining what route we can take. In prior years we would not start this ride until after Highland Rim because sunset would then allow for the completion of the normal two hour Hammerfest route. On May 3rd sunset is only 7:35 PM and May 10th is 7:41 PM. We will not attempt to ride 15 to 20 minutes in the dark from Natchez Trace to Percy Warner on Highway 100.
Therefore.....
On May 3rd we will roll out at 6:00 PM, but our route will be the old Tuesday night sprint loop instead. This route is just over 90 minutes long and ideal for the daylight time available. We will NOT sprint for the lines scattered throughout the route, but do expect the pace to rise on occasion. Treat this as a preliminary warmup and opportunity for newer riders to get their wheels warmed and feel welcomed.
On May 10th we'll once again roll out at 6:00 PM, but on this date we'll have some very special guests attending. The Victory Brewing Women's Professional Cycling Team will be in town to join us, and we're going to modify the route once again to accommodate the unique situation. Everyone will ride an out and back on Belle Meade Boulevard and then do one lap of the long 11.2 loop through Percy Warner Park.
Respect the executive order and follow through on May 3rd and 10th. There's no sense in trying to do anything else because sunset is the trump card. Stay within these boundaries and wait for.....
May 17th when the REAL fun begins! Sunset on the 17th will be 7:47 PM allowing us plenty of time to complete the normal Hammerfest course in true fashion, with speed and suffering! Rollout will be 6:00 PM, BToGS!
