It's ON - suit up & race!
The countdown is almost over and the ball is about to drop on the VU/CU race weekend. A lot of work by both universities has been invested to make it a worthwhile event. Plus, many others are volunteering their time to ensure a smooth weekend of fun. I really do hope you enjoy yourselves and respect the efforts of everyone involved.
Remember, this isn't a big funded USCF event. Collegiate programs must run things on a shoestring, but I can assure you the experience will be positive. The final goal for Vanderbilt and Cumberland is to raise a bit of money for their respective programs, but that doesn't mean sacrificing the racing experience.
Judging from the number of hits on the race flyer I'd say there's going to be an excellent turnout for the training races. The flyer has been viewed a whopping 816 times since being uploaded to NashvilleCyclist.com. 816! Of course some of you have hit it 25 times yourself, so I'm not doing too many cartwheels because of 816.
Here's what I anticipate, an "A" road race field to be a little more than 50 with a "B" field bigger than that. I'm guestimating of course, but I bet I'm not far off. If the "B" field gets over 75 then we will have to split that field due to USCF rules. Before you get too upset over a split remember this is just a training race with no points and no money. We cannot jeopardize the safety of riders by having a field size over 75 in a lower level field of ability.
For the crit on Sunday we'll have to adjust depending upon the total number of racers that show up. We can either split a field and have a third race, or I will rearrange the course to eliminate some turns to accommodate a larger group.
Regardless, please be patient because you're going to have fun! So bring your bikes, fit legs, and a good attitude to help make this an enjoyable weekend for everyone. See you there!
