Cumberland wins again
The victories and podium finishes continue for the Cumberland University Cycling Team. This past weekend the team traveled to Newnan, Georgia for races hosted by Georgia Tech. Saturday morning began with an individual time-trial followed by a road race, and Sunday they competed in another road race.
Peter Fairbanks nearly swept the weekend series in the Men's A division with two wins and one 2nd place! Peter started off by winning the individual time-trial, then placed 3rd in the afternoon road race. Peter's 3rd place was right on the wheel of Jason Chatham's 2nd place finish in the same race. Jason finished off a strong sprint for 2nd, but was beat at the line by Luke Winger from Lees-McRae.
Peter and Jason capped off the weekend in Sunday's road race by dictating the pace and race dynamics throughout. Eventually Peter settled into a four man breakaway which whittled down to three on the last lap. Peter put in his last attack with less than four miles to go and broke away for a solo victory by a margin of 45 seconds. Jason capped off the chasing group by winning the pack sprint for 5th place.
After only two weeks of racing Cumberland is proving to be a team to keep your eye on.....
2 Victories & 4 Podium finishes for this weekend
3 Victories & 9 Podium finishes for the season
Next weekend Cumberland travels to Tallahassee, Florida for two days of criteriums held by FSU.
