If only the rosters were broken down into different categories like other sports do for positions. Teams could classify riders for GC, time-trialist, climber, sprinter, domestique, Classics, grand tours, etc.
A simple lineup card before the beginning of each race would go a long way for fans to follow the sport more closely. This would be a practical way for everyone to be more knowledgeable about each rider's unique skills and how it affects the team's ability to succeed.
