Radar watchers

I know the Christmas season makes people a bit more edgy and forgetful, but despite the craziness of Christmas cyclists should never overlook checking the radar before a training ride. I don't know how many showed up on Saturday, but I do know more than one got drenched and took hours to thaw afterwards.

Guys and gals, ALWAYS check the current weather and radar for rain. Hindsight is 20/20, but the radar was quite clearly filled with rain. The rain clouds stretched from Jackson to Nashville, up into Kentucky, down into Mississippi, and making progress to hit southwest Nashville just after the start of BToGS at 10:15 AM.

If the ride had started at 7 AM then everyone would have been in the clear, but the timing could not have been worse. In the future, on weekend training rides check the radar before leaving home. If there's a stretch of rain clouds heading towards or over Nashville then don't bet on a ride happening, unless it's 70+ degrees in the spring/summer.

I'll end with what I add in emails and website postings, "Use common sense."
