New Cumberland cycling coach
Cumberland University has just hired a new cycling coach today. Details are still forthcoming. At some point on Friday I will provide information about the new coach and have more background info. Stay tuned.
The 2004/2005 season was the first year of the program at the private university in Lebanon. The vacancy was created when the previous coach, Levi Olsen, left to go back to school himself. The highlight of the season was Stephanie Hannos winning the Division II Women's Criterium Championship. A first year program capturing this victory is a real feather in their cap.
Now.....did you even realize the school had a cycling team? I bet a lot of you didn't, but Cumberland is a school that has always been at the forefront of beginning programs to attract a wider variety of student athletes. Currently they also field teams in golf, cross country and even wrestling. This fall they have 45 kids on the wrestling team alone.
Cumberland is best known athletically for its outstanding baseball team. After having competed in the NAIA World Series many times in the last decade they finally won a National Championship in 2004.
