2005 Music City Triathlon

This coming Sunday marks the 27th year of the Music City Triathlon. It takes place at Percy Priest lake in the Cook Recreation area. If I'm not mistaken, this event is the second oldest tri in the country with Ironman being the oldest. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

The 39k bike course is one I have trained on quite a bit over the years since I live on that side of town. I was there today as a matter of fact. It's a rolling course and great for power riders. A lot of up and down, but no major hills.

The downside to this year's event is it's limited to 300 participants. I don't know what the total usually is, but if you're planning on racing I suggest registering today if you haven't already.

The race director has some details about changes for the race in 2006 that should be huge improvements. The plan is to start from Nashville Shores, and if you're familiar with the area you know this will mean having to race the bike on portions of Bell Road. They could still take the route out towards the regular course with no problems, but it would mean a few miles on Bell. There's a lot of traffic on that short stretch which would mean for some interesting racing.

The last couple of years I have ridden out on Sunday AM and watched the bike and run portion. Pretty cool atmosphere if you've never been.
