CU at TN state champs.....

As for the light blogging the last few days......

The Cumberland University cycling team raced this past weekend at the TN State Championships in Nashville. Our Pro 1/2 team lit up the weekend with some outstanding results. Personally I did Cat 3 while we also had three guys taking part in Cat 4s.

In the Pro 1/2/3 RR it was NashvilleCyclist.com diarist Jeff Hopkins taking home the victory. Bjoern Ossenbrink of Cumberland took 3rd place while teammate Peter Fairbanks wrapped up 6th. Shawn Mullican is another Cumberland Bulldog that finished strong with a 12th place finish.

Bjoern and Peter were part of a breakaway that got away on lap two, and then it came down to Bjoern, Jeff, and a Krystal rider. Jeff shook them all in the end, but the Cumberland boys played a huge role in how the race played out.

All three did the TT too, but it was in the crit the following day where everyone once again made an impact. Peter Fairbanks was in a 5 man break with 3 Krystals (no cheese!) and one Hincapie rider. The breakaway lapped the field and Peter then nailed down 2nd place in the sprint. Jeff Hopkins won the finishing pack sprint to take home 6th place. Shawn Mullican finished the crit riding towards the front and holding his position to wrap 8th spot.

Overall a great weekend of racing for CU, and a LOT of fun for me as it was a great way to end my first week as coach. Look for race reports from Peter and/or Bjoern soon. They're eager to tell some stories from the road.

Maybe they'll include the story about the 90 year old man in Belle Meade who backed into our van at a stop light, not once, but twice! I'll leave the rest to them.....
