Dig deep into those pockets

Recently TBRA has announced plans to help raise money for Katrina. Hopefully by now you have found a way to give, but if not you still have time and opportunities to do so.

I was fortunate to maximize my donation through a matching program with company I work for. Our owner essentially tripled our contribution, meaning for every dollar I give he gives two more dollars. For example, a $10 donation becomes a $30 donation. Our company has less than 200 people, but our final contribution was $8055 to the Red Cross!

American Red Cross Katrina facts.

The Red Cross has lived up to the challenge and deserve our praise, prayers, and financial support. Scroll to the bottom of the link to see how much money has been raised. Total giving through 9/13 was $653 million with $320 million through online contributions. Wow!

Of course the focus is on hurrican relief, rightfully so. However, don't forget other do-gooder organizations out there. I challenge everyone to continue giving, and for those giving up a portion of their winnings this weekend for the Nashville Salvation Army to give even more.

To kick it up another notch, consider your own matching program. Most bicycle racers (especially those Master racers with a huge payout!) have deeper pockets than most. Whatever amount you give this weekend from your winnings turn around and give a matching amount to the TriStar Junior Development Team.

I am a New Orleanian displaced by Katrina here in Nashville. I am desperastely looking for an inexpensive road bike that someone may have to rent or buy so I can take advantage of the Natchez Trace and burn some steam for the next few months. Any help in finding one would be greatly appreciated.
