Random thoughts.....

Instead of putting together a list of different blog posts I'm going throw down the same ideas but in a shorter version. Here goes randomness.....

Get ready to welcome another diarist to the stable here at NashvilleCyclist.com. I'm bringing on a familiar face within the racing scene here in Tennessee, but his specialty and passion is mountain biking. Not only will he discuss the racing scene here in Tennessee, but also about his travels on the SERC and the shenanigans that take place. With a few TBRA jerseys on his back I'd say the credibility is there, and his youthful enthusiasm will rub off on everyone.

Within the next week or so I hope to have the flyer completed for the NashvilleCyclist.com Coliseum Criterium on May 21st. It's a matter of dollars and cents at this point, along with added sponsors, but I have a solid grasp of the racing categories and start times. I am shooting for both a Masters 30+ and Masters 40+ race, and I will be spacing out the start times so a Masters rider can take a breather before tackling another event. I'm banking on you old men (of which I am!) racing twice at the Coliseum that day.

So Friday the 31st is the last Friday of March. You know what that means, Critical Mass Nashville! The CM supporters meet at Dragon Park in Hillsboro Village underneath the picnic pavilion at 5:00 PM, but they take off on cue at 5:30 PM. If you've never participated then I recommend checking it out. It's about 50/50 of what you think, but I can guarantee you'll ride away with a fresher perspective. The weather looks potentially sketchy, so check the radar first!

As I think about my upcoming schedule for the next few months I don't think I'll be able to attend any of the Critical Mass dates until possibly June. I'm missing this one because I'm traveling to Athens, next month I'll be going back to Athens Twilight, and in May I'll hopefully be time-trialing at the Edgar Soto SR. If any of you do go then please provide some details.

April Fools is Saturday. Who do you plan to trick?

This weekend the Lascassas Road Race & Time-Trial are being held by Team MOAB. The road race is a good one for people who enjoy flatter courses. The roads are bumpy in sections and have very little shoulder area, but it's fast and furious. It's a good course to start the year as opposed to one filled with climbs.

Have you read about Katharine and Zach's problem with getting DNF results at Redlands after having actually completed the race? These are pro races mind you, and for men/women who do this for a living it must be terribly frustrating. The same thing has happened to me a handful of times here in Tennessee. Once was a top 5 or 6 finish, but I had to leave before the results were posted so I could not protest. It's one thing for the officials to not be able to make out your number and then state it's unreadable, but it's another thing to be completely left off and regarded as DNF.

In case you haven't heard, those bells you've been hearing in Nashville are future wedding bells for none other than Christian Foster! This bit of sensitive information is no longer on the "down-low", so be sure to congratulate Christian the next time you see him. A bachelor shindig is looming, but no word yet on the exact date of the exchanging of vows. I have been ragging him to put together a diary about his latest endeavor with Zero Gravity. He's working for them now and as he put it, "I know way too much about brakes!" The coolest part is they're sending him to the Tour de France this year.

You do know this weekend we "spring forward" one hour right? Check this, Sunday's sunset is 6:09 PM, but Monday's sunset is 7:10 PM! With this extra hour of evening sunlight it means many clubs will start up their regular evening training rides. I often get emails from people out of town asking about regular rides and where can they go to meet people. Anyone having information about regular rides please forward them to me and I'll provide the info within my training rides section. I expect the fitness level of all Nashville cyclists to improve with this change of the clock.

On either April 4th or 5th of next week I'm going by Bike Pedlar on West End and test riding a Colnago. Read the news item about their demo day on the main site.

Enough for now, it's bedtime.....
