Training Race Review
Vanderbilt and Cumberland want to thank everyone who showed up to race this past weekend in the USCF training races. The turnout was outstanding despite some chilly temps, and yes those WERE snowflakes I saw in Leipers Fork on Saturday! Total riders for all four events came to 126.

Here's the podium in each event:

2 - Greg Casals of Memphis Velo
3 - Stephen Omilianowski of Mid-TN Velo
Road Race Category B
1 - Nathan Berkley of Tri-Star
2 - Patrick Harkins of Tri-Star
3 - Jason Redd of MotorWerks
Criterium Category A
1 - Eric Macbeth of Gran Fondo
2 - Scott Jackson of Lees-McRae
3 - Shawn Mullican of MOAB
Criterium Category B
1 - Patrick Harkins of Tri-Star
2 - Mark Schroeder of At the Hub
3 - Neil Fronheiser of Allanti
Congratulations to all the podium winners. There wasn't any money on the line, but it should give everyone a boost of confidence to know their fitness is looking good.
I saw the Category A road race finish and NashvilleCyclist.com diarist Daniel Matheny smoked the sprint for victory in his 2-man breakaway. I missed seeing the Category B finish unfortunately, but each lap I saw them come through the feed zone the field was shattered into many groups.
The Coliseum criteriums proved once again it's a tough course that will surely produce a breakaway. The Category A race saw Eric MacBeth of Gran Fondo and Scott Jackson of Lees-McRae in a long 2-man breakaway. Scott had already raced the Collegiate Men's A race and finished fourth. The day before Scott won the road race and has proven to be a strong rider throughout the season. However, Eric was a little fresher and had a strong punch at the end to take the sprint victory from Scott.
Patrick Harkins of Tri-Star had an especially good weekend with a 2nd place and a victory. The category 4 field in Tennessee had better keep an eye on him as well the category 3 field when he upgrades. Patrick secured 2nd place in the road race behind his Tri-Star teammate Nathan Berkley, and then proceeded to take quick command of the criterium in a breakaway with one other guy. He then attacked on the last lap and was able to cross the line without a contested sprint, very impressive effort.
Thanks again for coming out and supporting the cycling programs of Vanderbilt and Cumberland. We had a lot of fun putting these on and look forward to doing it again next year.
