Saul Raisin - get on board!

I have been following the cycling progress of Dalton, Georgia native Saul Raisin for a few years, even before his terrible accident, but the last couple of months Saul's progress has been off my radar screen. Until now! I don't know the guy personally at all, but a huge smile lit up on my face after seeing some recent news reports.

Raisin gets green light
This is the best news to hit American cycling in a long long time. Saul has received the OK to race in the US National Time-Trial Championships this fall in Greenville, SC. There's also a chance he'll race in the road race championships during that same weekend of events.

I'm telling you, get on the Saul Raisin bandwagon right now. I'm telling you, don't wait until he's achieving the success that's going to come his way. Do it now. Follow him. Get his posters. Read his website regularly. Post guestbook messages. Attend his charity rides. Soak up everything Saul. Do it all.

Be the one to say, "I have been a huge fan ever since....." Moms and dads, Saul is who you want your kid looking up to. Heck, mom and dad, all of us should be looking up to Saul.

Don't forget that Saul was a top up-and-coming rider with Credit Agricole before his crash in April of 2006. Saul demonstrated he was a rider to watch by being one of the best young riders in the 2005 Tour de Georgia, and later that season in the Worlds Road Race Championship he was in an unsuccessful four-man breakaway for a huge chunk of the 273km event. Two months prior to his crash Saul won the mountainous stage two of the Tour de Langkawi in February of 2006.

If his upcoming return doesn't get you excited enough then check out his latest diary on Velonews.

Not only is he getting married soon, but he's got a book coming out titled Tour de Life: From Coma to Competition. Yes Saul, I agree, blue skies are ahead of you. If you click on the book link you'll also get to enjoy his recent interview that played on Versus the other day. If his story doesn't touch you then go and get your heart checked out.

There are a few other cycling books recently released that I have yet to buy. Know why? There's nothing inspiring about either of them, but Saul's book is about to hit my bookshelf because you can purchase it in advance directly from the publisher!

Miracles do still happen. Get on board.
