Criterium racing from NC.com
I'm currently in the process of securing dates for all of our upcoming criteriums planned throughout the summer for us pedalcyclists. As of right now there are 12, count 'em 12, criterium dates lined up at Titans Coliseum!
To start we will have a criterium training race on Sunday, March 26th. There will be an "A" and "B" race for USCF racers after the collegiate races hosted by Vanderbilt and Cumberland. This event will neither award TBRA points nor be part of the summer criterium series.
The next date will be Sunday, May 21st. This will be a full day of criteriums for all categories held in conjunction with the Hot Sumner RR taking place on Saturday in White House. This event does offer TBRA points, but it's not part of the summer criterium series.
Now for the real fun....
NashvilleCyclist.com Criterium Training Series - 2006
May 24
June 14, 21 & 28
July 12, 19, 26
August 9 & 16
These races are held on Wednesday evenings starting at 6 PM. There's still one tentative date which will either be on May 31 or August 23.
Another thing I am considering is not starting until June 14, but then replacing the May date with August 2. The May date is sandwiched between our May 21 date and the big Memorial Day Stage Race held in Nashville. Therefore, it may be a better thing to not race since everyone will be gearing towards the weekend. Ultimately I have to take advantage of dates offered by the Titans Coliseum.
Our goal is to provide a 10 race criterium series and maintain points throughout. It's certainly an achievable goal, and after the success of last year's races I believe we'll have even more people show up to race.
The last additional 13th race would potentially take place in late August. However, by that time your legs might be critted (new word) out.
Get out your calendars and make plans now because this is going to happen. Those of you who raced at the stadium last year can attest to how awesome and challenging the course turned out to be. In 2005 we averaged 55 to 60 racers each Wednesday night, but I anticipate a larger turnout in 2006.
Expect Wednesdays in downtown Nashville to become an awesome evening of fun, camaraderie, and culture building in our great city. Don't miss out!
